During the monsoon session of Parliament on August 20th, the 130th Amendment Bill to the Constitution was introduced. This new bill stipulates that a Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or any minister must resign if arrested or detained for 30 days. Since its introduction in Parliament, the opposition has strongly criticized the bill, with Tejashwi Yadav calling it a blackmailing bill. However, the BJP’s allies, the TDP and Janata Dal United, have expressed their support for the bill.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), a key ally of the BJP in Andhra Pradesh, welcomed the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill 2025, calling it a step towards clean politics, which the public has long awaited. They stated that this bill could also remove the Prime Minister.
Despite their support, the TDP also advocated sending the bill to a parliamentary panel for detailed scrutiny to prevent misuse. Regarding the bill, Shah stated in Parliament that the people of India want clean politics, but they also want a strong democracy. That’s why this bill was sent to the committee. When we touch the Constitution, we must do so with utmost care, like a jeweler polishing a diamond.
Janata Dal United leader Lalan Singh commented that democracy runs on public decorum. Considering this, the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha today. The bill includes a provision that the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or ministers at the center and state levels will not be eligible to hold office if they are imprisoned in criminal cases and do not get bail within 30 days. He said that in recent years, it has been observed that some Chief Ministers/Ministers did not resign despite being jailed on corruption charges and continued to run their departments from jail, which is against the standards of high morality in public life.
He said that the central government introduced this bill in the Lok Sabha with the objective of establishing high moral standards in public life. During this time, the way the opposition displayed unparliamentary conduct with the Home Minister proves that the entire opposition in the country does not want to establish high standards of morality in public life. Whereas Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to establishing high standards of morality in public life.
I strongly condemn this undemocratic and uncivilized behavior of the opposition and I am fully confident that the people of the country will never accept those who oppose the establishment of high standards in public life.
Regarding the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill 2025, the opposition created a huge uproar in Parliament. Along with this, accusations of arbitrariness were also leveled against the government. Tejashwi Yadav called this bill a blackmailing bill, while Rahul Gandhi said that through this bill, we are being pushed back to the medieval age. Everything will be done according to the choice of the leader through this bill; whoever the leader does not like, will be removed.
