Following the passage of the Online Gaming Bill in the Lok Sabha, companies associated with real money games are facing potential setbacks. The gaming industry invests approximately $2 billion (over 17,000 crore rupees) annually in advertising and marketing. However, this is expected to decline significantly due to the government’s move to regulate online games.
Furthermore, in response to increased scrutiny and potential penalties related to the promotion of real money games, talent management teams of players and Bollywood actors have instructed media buying representatives to remove advertisements from social media platforms. Sources indicate that the government’s decision has also put the three-year sponsorship deal between fantasy sports platform Dream11 and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) under scrutiny.
