The Tamil Nadu government has launched a new WhatsApp chatbot, aiming to enhance citizen accessibility to public services. This initiative, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding, was introduced in the presence of IT Minister Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan and Principal Secretary Brajendra Navnit. The chatbot offers a single point of access to approximately 50 government services.
The chatbot is bilingual, supporting both Tamil and English. Users can leverage the platform to file complaints, settle utility bills such as electricity and water, pay municipal taxes, and even purchase metro tickets.
Officials have stated that the primary goal of this development is to minimize the need for physical visits to service centers, instead bringing services directly to the public via their mobile devices. The chatbot is designed to make government services readily available at any time and from any location.
