An investigation unfolded in Patna, Bihar, where the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) targeted Vinod Kumar Rai, a superintendent engineer in the rural works department. Rai, upon realizing he was under scrutiny, reportedly attempted to destroy evidence by burning cash and concealing some in a water tank. Despite his efforts, the EOU uncovered a significant amount of illicitly obtained funds and assets. The EOU received information on August 21st that Rai was seen leaving his workplace in a white Innova car carrying a large sum of cash accumulated through illegal activities. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed, leading to a search of Rai’s residence on Bhootnath Road in Agam Kuan, Patna. During the raid, Rai allegedly burned numerous bundles of currency notes. Investigators discovered remnants of burnt currency and documents in the home’s toilet pipes, causing blockages that required the assistance of municipal workers to clear. Inside the pipes, authorities found partially burned currency and other documents. Additionally, the search yielded 39.50 lakh rupees hidden in the water tank, along with approximately 52 lakh rupees recovered after including the value of the burnt currency.
