US President Donald Trump has nominated Sergio Gor, a close confidant, as the next US Ambassador to India. Gor currently holds the position of Head of Presidential Personal Appointments within the Trump administration. His appointment, however, awaits confirmation from the US Senate. He will remain in his current role until the Senate approves his nomination.
Gor’s appointment comes at a time of ongoing trade disputes between the US and India concerning tariffs. This has generated considerable interest, especially because, for the first time, an American ambassador to India has also been assigned the responsibility of Special Envoy, or special representative, for the entire South and Central Asia region. This suggests that Sergio Gor could become the most powerful US ambassador to India to date.
