In the rural area of Purvi Singhbhum district, under Bodaam block, in Kolabani village of Punnasa Tola of Laylam Panchayat, a raw house of a poor tribal family suddenly collapsed on Sunday morning. The people inside the house were able to get out in time, averting a major loss of life and property. However, the family has been completely rendered homeless and has suffered heavy losses.
The incident happened at around 9 am on Sunday, when the raw tiled house of Vijay Hansda’s family suddenly collapsed due to heavy rain. This house, made of mud and tiles, had weakened due to rainwater. The family members were present in the house at the time of the incident, but as soon as they heard the sound of the house collapsing, everyone came out. Within a few moments, the entire walls and roof collapsed.
The victim, Vijay Hansda, said that the bullocks tied inside the house got trapped in the debris. As soon as the villagers were informed, they immediately reached the spot and after much effort, both the bullocks were safely taken out. However, the ration, clothes, utensils and other essential items kept inside the house were buried under the debris.
Vijay Hansda says that this house was their entire savings, which has now been completely destroyed. Now they don’t even have a place to hide their heads. The family has been forced to live under the open sky.
The affected family has demanded immediate relief and compensation from the administration. Other villagers of the village have also requested the district administration to provide rehabilitation and necessary assistance to a poor family like Vijay Hansda so that they can start their life again.
