In Dumka district of Jharkhand, the bodies of an elderly couple were discovered in their home, soaked in blood. The incident occurred while their son, Ajay Saha, was away in Godda with his wife and children to celebrate a Mansa Puja. The deceased couple were identified as Navgopal Saha and his wife, Vibhu Saha.
The incident took place in the Chorkatta village of the Mufassil police station area. On the night of August 20th, when Ajay Saha returned home, he was shocked by the scene. He immediately informed the Mufassil police station about the double murder. Considering the seriousness of the case, SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar of Gumla district formed a special investigation team.
Using various technical methods, the team examined the last call records from the deceased couple’s mobile phones, which led them to suspect their younger son-in-law, Subal Saha. After intense questioning, Subal Saha initially misled the police. He claimed he hadn’t visited his in-laws’ home in Dumka, Jharkhand, for several months. However, the investigation revealed his last location was not in West Bengal but in his in-laws’ village. Upon further interrogation, the accused son-in-law confessed to the double murder.
Subal Saha confessed that he had come from Birbhum district, West Bengal, on the night of August 19th. Upon arriving, he asked his father-in-law for money to replace his truck’s tire. When his father-in-law refused, a dispute over money ensued. The couple had given their elder son-in-law a significant sum of money to build a house, but they denied Subal Saha’s request for financial assistance. Enraged, he attacked his father-in-law with a brick, killing him. When his mother-in-law intervened, he brutally murdered her as well. The accused stole a gold chain, rings, and other jewelry from the deceased mother-in-law and threw his father-in-law’s mobile phone into a pond to conceal evidence. He then returned to his home in West Bengal to avoid suspicion. The accused even attended the last rites of his in-laws, expressing deep condolences to the family.
The police have arrested the accused son-in-law. They have also recovered the mobile phone from the pond, the stolen gold ornaments from the mother-in-law, blood-stained clothes, and other items.
