The Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has authorized the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to submit a bid for India to host the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in 2030. The Cabinet has also approved the signing of the Host Collaboration Agreement (HCA) and the provision of necessary guarantees from relevant ministries, departments, and authorities. Additionally, the government has sanctioned grant assistance to the Gujarat government if India’s bid is successful. This move is intended to strengthen India’s role in the international sports arena. The Commonwealth Games are expected to draw athletes from 72 countries, along with coaches, technical officials, tourists, and media personnel, thereby benefiting local businesses and generating revenue.
