The box office witnessed a major clash on August 14, 2025, as ‘War 2’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, went head-to-head with Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’. Both films, anticipated releases of the year, drew large audiences and generated substantial revenue, establishing themselves as major releases. Following a strong second weekend, the momentum has begun to wane as the films enter the critical weekdays of their run.
‘War 2’ had a strong opening, amassing Rs 52 crore on its first day. The positive trend continued on the second day, with collections rising to Rs 57.85 crore. However, the film experienced a decline over the weekend, earning Rs 33.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 32.65 crore on Sunday. The drop was significant on Monday, with only Rs 8.75 crore, but the film stabilized slightly on Tuesday with Rs 9 crore. Midweek saw further declines with Rs 5.75 crore on Wednesday and Rs 5 crore on Thursday, resulting in a Week 1 total of Rs 204.25 crore. Entering its second week, ‘War 2’ earned Rs 4 crore on its second Friday, an estimated Rs 6.25 crore on its second Saturday, and Rs 7.25 crore on its second Sunday, displaying healthy growth. Nevertheless, weekday collections saw a sharp decrease with Rs 2.15 crore on its second Monday, and Rs 2.75 crore on its second Tuesday. Early estimates for Day 14 (second Wednesday) suggest around Rs 2.50 crore, bringing the total box office collection to Rs 229.75 crore.
‘War 2’, a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘War’, was released on August 14, 2025, bringing back Hrithik Roshan as Agent Kabir, six years after the first film. Jr. NTR joined the franchise as Agent Vikram. Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana also featured in key roles.

In its second week, ‘Coolie’ added Rs 5.85 crore on its second Friday, showed a substantial increase with Rs 10.5 crore on Saturday, and Rs 11.35 crore on Sunday. The film experienced another drop during the weekdays, minting Rs 3.25 crore on its second Monday, and Rs 3.65 crore on its second Tuesday. According to early figures, ‘Coolie’ collected Rs 4.50 crore on Day 14 (second Wednesday), resulting in a 14-day total of Rs 268.75 crore. Despite the sharp drops during the weekdays, the film has been a major commercial success.
The plot of ‘Coolie’ revolves around Deva, a former gold smuggler turned coolie, who attempts to reclaim his past glory by reviving his old gang using stolen technology hidden in vintage golden watches, leading to unforeseen consequences.
The cast also includes Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat. Aamir Khan will be seen in a cameo role. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures.
