A spokesperson for China’s National Defense Ministry stated on Thursday that China and India should jointly safeguard peace and harmony in their border areas. This statement was made in anticipation of the Indian Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to China. The spokesperson, Zhang Xiaogang, made the remarks during a press conference concerning the 24th round of talks between special representatives from China and India on the border dispute, which took place earlier this month. During these talks, a 10-point consensus was reached, with both sides agreeing to utilize mechanisms for border management and control through diplomatic and military channels. India was represented at the meeting by NSA Ajit Doval. Zhang mentioned that both sides engaged in a clear and in-depth exchange of views on China-India border issues in a positive and constructive spirit, leading to multiple agreements. The Doval-Wang talks yielded five concrete outcomes, including the establishment of an expert group under the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) to achieve early success in border demarcation.
