The Kerala government is set to introduce a bill to legalize agricultural land leasing. This initiative aims to promote the utilization of vast tracts of fallow land within the state. It also intends to foster the establishment of new agricultural startups. The Kerala government is modeling this bill on the Andhra Pradesh Farmers’ Rights Act-2019.
Following the enactment of the bill, farmers will be eligible for benefits like bank loans and crop insurance. Furthermore, the bill will encourage the mechanization of farming practices.
Officials believe that lease farming will aid agricultural startups, which require substantial land areas for high-tech and scientific farming. The bill is also expected to boost the mechanization of agriculture. Eleven significant land parcels are available for commercial farming purposes.
