The West Delhi Lions claimed the Delhi Premier League title with a commanding six-wicket win against the Central Delhi Kings on Sunday, August 31, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Central Delhi Kings, after losing the toss and being put in to bat, managed a competitive score of 173/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Yugal Saini anchored the innings with a crucial 65 runs. Pranshu Vijayran contributed significantly, smashing an explosive 50* off 24 balls, pushing CDK to a challenging total.
For West Delhi, Manan Bhardwaj and Shivank Vashisht were the standout bowlers, each taking two wickets to restrict the Kings’ scoring.
The West Delhi Lions’ chase faced an early setback, losing three wickets in the powerplay, which put their title aspirations at risk. However, the determined Nitish Rana rose to the occasion, playing a brilliant innings of 79 off 49 balls. His performance was the cornerstone of West Delhiās successful chase, as they reached their target with two overs to spare, finishing at 174/4 in just 18 overs.
Hrithik Shokeen provided excellent support to Rana, scoring an unbeaten 42 runs, as the duo led West Delhi to victory.
The game commenced with West Delhi Lions winning the toss and choosing to field. This decision proved to be the correct one, as their bowlers kept CDK in check and they comfortably chased down the target.
For West Delhi, it was a significant season in 2025. Last year, they finished in fifth place and missed the playoffs. This time, they not only reached the final but also clinched the coveted title in a thrilling manner.
