In the wake of severe flooding and heavy rainfall that has ravaged Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has called for assistance from all political parties, state governments, and particularly the central government. He highlighted the dire situation, emphasizing the need for urgent aid. Kejriwal announced that all AAP Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) are donating one month’s salary to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund. AAP workers, including ministers and MLAs from the Punjab government, are actively engaged in relief operations on the ground.
Kejriwal, in a video message, underscored Punjab’s significance as a strong shield of India, historically bearing the brunt of foreign invasions. He noted Punjab’s crucial role in defending the nation and its sacrifices. He further added that Punjab has always been at the forefront during difficult times. It is the same Punjab that sacrificed the most lives during the fight for independence and made countless sacrifices to safeguard the borders.
Kejriwal emphasized the spirit of Punjab, highlighting its contribution during the Green Revolution and its role in feeding the nation. He lamented the current crisis, where nature’s fury has caused widespread damage, leaving people homeless, unemployed, and with devastated farmlands. He praised the solidarity among Punjabis during this disaster, with neighbors helping each other.
Kejriwal appealed to all political parties, state governments, and the central government to rise above politics and embrace humanity by supporting Punjab. He urged all citizens to contribute to the relief efforts. He announced that AAP MPs and MLAs across the country, including those in Delhi, Gujarat, Kashmir, and Goa, are donating a month’s salary to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
