Heavy rainfall is wreaking havoc across India. From Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir, incessant downpours are causing widespread concern. Following continuous rainfall and the release of water from Haryana, the water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi has reached 207.48 meters, exceeding the danger mark and nearing the 1978 record of 207.49 meters.
Today, Delhi is expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain. Cloudy conditions are forecast for September 5th, with moderate rainfall likely. Thunderstorms and rain are also expected on the 6th and 7th, while the sky may remain cloudy on the 8th and 9th.
Elderly residents of Delhi, recalling the events of 1978, say that the Yamuna had adopted a similar menacing form then. Water flowed on the roads, and many posh colonies in Delhi were flooded. People were forced to leave their homes and seek shelter in the upper areas of Delhi.
On Wednesday, residents of Majnu Ka Tila, Madanpur Khadar, and Badarpur in Delhi were taking refuge in temporary shelters due to the rising water levels, awaiting the receding of the water. The administration has evacuated people from low-lying areas and closed the iron railway bridge to traffic.
