The Bihar Bandh, called in response to offensive language used against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s deceased mother, is impacting Patna. BJP workers initiated the bandh by setting fires and blocking roads at the Pachim Darwaza Morh. Protesters displayed placards and demonstrated against the remarks made during an event. The bandh, organized by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), is scheduled from 7 AM to 12 PM, with essential services like hospitals, ambulances, and railways exempted.
During the five-hour bandh, BJP members protested in Danapur, burning tires on the roads and staging sit-ins, with women also participating.
BJP leaders have strongly criticized the INDIA alliance. BJP President Dilip Jaiswal, while protesting on the road, stated that the offensive comments were made at an INDIA alliance event against the Prime Minister’s late mother. He demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav. BJP leader Sanjay Mayukh emphasized the participation of women and the determination to hold those responsible accountable. BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad condemned the remarks as shameful, urging Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav to apologize.
The bandh includes the closure of schools, colleges, and coaching centers, alongside intercity bus services, government institutions, and private businesses. However, petrol pumps, medical facilities, and essential shops remain open, and railway services continue to operate.
