US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick anticipates India will express contrition and pursue a trade agreement with the United States. Lutnick believes India will recognize the importance of the US market for its economic progress. He drew a parallel to Canada, which altered its approach to secure a deal with the US after assessing its economic situation. Lutnick suggested India would soon seek a deal, potentially within a month or two, expressing regret and looking to negotiate with Donald Trump. This comes after former US President Donald Trump expressed concerns on social media that the US has lost India and Russia to China. Trump’s comments followed a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting in Tianjin, where India, Russia, and China were present. Trump shared an older image of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump had previously accused Chinese President Xi Jinping of actions against America.
