The central government has extended the deadline for filing ITR to September 15th, leaving less than ten days remaining. In response, the Income Tax Department has released two apps designed to assist taxpayers in filing their ITR. These apps, the ‘AIS App’ and the ‘Income Tax Department App,’ allow taxpayers to file taxes from their mobile devices. They simplify the ITR filing process, making it easier, especially for salaried individuals, pensioners, and small taxpayers with straightforward income profiles. The apps facilitate direct filing of income tax returns (ITR).
How the Apps Help:
**Login and Access:** Taxpayers can log in to the apps using their Aadhaar ID, PAN, and password.
**Pre-filled Data Verification:** Upon logging in, users can access data from the Annual Information Statement and Taxpayer Information Summary within the app. This includes pre-filled data from sources like companies, banks, and mutual funds, reducing the need for manual entry.
**Assistance with Selecting the Correct ITR Form:** The apps help users select the appropriate ITR form based on their income sources, such as salary, pension, capital gains, or other income.
**Adding Details:** Users can correct or add data if any information is incorrect or missing. For instance, interest from fixed deposits or rental income might need to be entered manually.
**E-Verification and Submission:** After filing the return, e-verification can be completed using Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or digital signature. The return is then submitted immediately.
These mobile apps reduce the need for desktops or intermediaries, offering a convenient, accessible, and secure way for taxpayers to manage their tax filings.
