Despite adopting a tough stance against India, the country did not yield to the United States. With the US President’s pressure tactics failing, he has softened his approach. According to former Indian diplomat K.P. Fabian, it’s been at least two days since Donald Trump has shown a softer stance towards India, attributing it to the ineffectiveness of tariffs.
Fabian indicated that Trump is coming to realize that his aggressive trade strategy with India, especially the additional 25% tariffs – bringing the total to 50% – due to New Delhi’s purchases of Russian oil, hasn’t yielded significant results.
