In the Ghatshila police station area of the East Singhbhum district, the murder of 70-year-old Lukuia Dhiwar was discovered on Monday. Her throat was slit, and the incident occurred late Sunday night in Ghodasai village.
When villagers did not see the door of her house open on Monday morning, they became suspicious and upon entering, found her blood-soaked body. The news of the incident has created an atmosphere of fear throughout the village.
Police have taken a young man from the village into custody on suspicion and are questioning him.
Villagers reported that the deceased, Lukuia Dhiwar, had been living alone in her house for several years. Two years ago, she was assaulted by a villager, Sunil Dhiwar, who accused her of being a witch. The matter had reached the police, but the dispute was settled after an agreement. Following the recent incident, villagers are discussing whether the murder is linked to the earlier dispute.
A police team has reached the spot and started an investigation. A forensic team has also been called to collect the weapon used in the murder and other evidence. The Ghatshila SDPO said that the accused is being questioned and the matter will be disclosed soon.
