The 27th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 was a nail-biter, with West Indies star Jason Holder orchestrating a stunning victory. Holder turned the game around in the final over, dismissing two Barbados Royals players in the space of 16 balls and securing a thrilling one-run win for his team. Prior to his match-winning exploits, Holder, the captain of the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, also contributed with the bat, helping his team reach a total of 150 runs. This victory marks the fourth win for the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots in their 10 matches of the league.
Chasing a target of 151, the Barbados Royals needed 14 runs off the final six balls with four wickets in hand. Rassie van der Dussen and Daniel Sams were at the crease. Holder bowled the final over. Van der Dussen hit a six off the first ball, and took a single to give the strike to Sams. The Royals needed seven runs from four balls. Holder then bowled a wide. Sams took two runs off the third ball, and one run each off the fourth and fifth balls. Needing two runs from the final ball, Holder dismissed Daniel Sams LBW to seal a one-run victory for his team. St. Kitts’ innings had a poor start.
Batting first against Barbados Royals, St. Kitts got off to a shaky start, losing five wickets for just 74 runs. Jason Holder and N. Bidaisee then steadied the innings, adding 74 runs for the sixth wicket. Holder scored an unbeaten 53 off 30 balls, including a boundary and five sixes. N. Bidaisee contributed 30 runs off 23 balls, with two boundaries and a six. Mohammad Rizwan scored 39 off 36 balls with four fours and a six. St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots finished their 20 overs at 150/7. Ethan Bosch took 3 wickets for Barbados Royals, while Daniel Sams and Chris Green each took two wickets. Chasing the target, Barbados Royals started well.
Quinton de Kock and Brendon King gave the Barbados Royals a good start, putting on 42 runs in 32 balls for the first wicket. However, the Royals’ innings faltered with the fall of Brendon King, losing two more wickets in the next 18 balls. Rassie van der Dussen and Sherfane Rutherford tried their best to secure a victory for their team, but their efforts were not enough. Van der Dussen remained unbeaten on 37 off 27 balls, hitting two fours and a six. Brendon King scored 29 runs off 22 balls, including a four and three sixes. Rutherford scored 25 runs off 20 balls with a four and two sixes. Captain Rovman Powell was dismissed for just 16 runs. Barbados Royals could only manage 149/7 in their 20 overs, losing the match by a single run. Jason Holder, Waqar Salamkheil, and N. Bidaisee took two wickets each for St. Kitts. Naseem Shah picked up one wicket.
