Vehicle owners across India have the opportunity to resolve outstanding traffic challans at the National Lok Adalat, scheduled for September 13, 2025. This initiative, taking place in courts nationwide, addresses minor traffic violations. These include infractions such as driving without a helmet or seatbelt, speeding, improper parking, or lacking a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. Participants can benefit from reduced fines or complete waivers, saving both time and money while avoiding lengthy court proceedings. This platform excludes serious offenses like drunk driving, hit-and-run incidents, and negligent driving resulting in fatalities. The program’s objective is to alleviate pressure on the courts and encourage greater adherence to traffic regulations among the public.
To participate in the Delhi Lok Adalat and settle pending traffic challans or e-challans, online registration is mandatory. The process involves visiting the Delhi Traffic Police website at traffic.delhipolice.gov.in and selecting the ‘Delhi State Legal Services Authority’ option. Applicants must then provide details such as their full name, contact number, vehicle registration number, and challan information before submitting the form. Upon successful submission, a token number and appointment letter are sent via email, along with confirmation and token download links. The Lok Adalat hearings will take place from 10 AM to 4 PM.
On the hearing date, vehicle owners are required to bring their printed appointment letter, token number, and original documents, including vehicle papers and challan receipts. Authorities advise arriving at the venue at least one hour prior to the scheduled proceedings. The upcoming Lok Adalat will offer relief, in the form of waivers or reduced fines, for minor traffic offenses. These include not wearing a seat belt or helmet, disregarding traffic signals, speeding, improper parking, driving without a valid PUC, missing number plates, lacking a vehicle fitness certificate, driving in the wrong lane, driving without a valid license, incorrectly issued challans, and other unspecified offenses.
Serious violations will not be eligible for relief under this scheme. These include driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, hit-and-run cases, fatalities caused by negligent driving, underage driving, illegal racing or speed trials, vehicles associated with criminal investigations, cases already in court, and challans issued by authorities in other states. In Delhi, Lok Adalat sessions will be held at various locations. These venues include Dwarka Court, Tis Hazari Court, Rohini Court, Rouse Avenue Court, Karkardooma Court, Patiala House Court, and Saket Court. Additional sessions will also be conducted at the Delhi High Court, District Courts, the Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, the Debt Recovery Tribunal, the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, and Permanent Lok Adalats.
The Lok Adalat provides numerous benefits to citizens. These include the ability to settle minor violations with reduced or waived fines, avoid legal expenses, save time by bypassing extensive court procedures, and allow the judiciary to focus on more serious cases. This initiative promotes greater adherence to traffic laws while streamlining the resolution of minor disputes.
