Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the tragic truck accident in Hassan, Karnataka. A statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced financial assistance to the families of the deceased. An ex-gratia payment of two lakh rupees will be provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each person who died in the accident. Additionally, those injured will receive an ex-gratia payment of 50,000 rupees.
The accident occurred during a Ganesh Visarjan procession in Hassan when a truck veered out of control and crashed into the crowd. Nine people died at the scene, and 22 others were injured. The incident took place in the village of Mosale Hosahalli in Hassan on the final day of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. The injured were taken to a private hospital in Hassan for treatment.
Reports from police sources indicate that most of the deceased were young men. Witnesses stated that a truck coming from the direction of Arkalgud lost control and ran over several people. Some individuals died instantly.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed his condolences, stating the government stands with the affected families during this difficult time. Families who lost loved ones will receive an ex-gratia payment of five lakh rupees. The state government will cover the full cost of medical treatment for the injured.
Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy also offered his sympathies, noting that many devotees were killed and over 20 others seriously injured. He urged the state government to provide free medical treatment to all the injured.
