E-commerce giant Amazon has suspended Palestinian software engineer Ahmad Shahror. The decision stems from the employee’s opposition to the company’s agreement with the Israeli government. Amazon has alleged that Shahror violated company policies, while Shahror maintains his right to express his views. He had worked for three years at Amazon’s Whole Foods division in Seattle. He opposed Project Nimbus through Slack channels and a letter.
Shahror claims Project Nimbus, initiated in 2021 with Google’s assistance, provides AI, data centers, and other resources to Israel. Amazon suspended the Palestinian software engineer for publicly opposing the company’s deal with the Israeli government.
According to reports, Amazon sent Shahror a notice stating that his posts on internal Slack channels violated several policies. Amazon has suspended the Palestinian engineer for protesting the contract with the Israeli government.
Ahmad Shahror says that Amazon is consistently trying to suppress the voices of Palestinians. A French employee was also terminated from their job for criticizing Israel in a social media post. An Amazon spokesperson stated that the company does not tolerate any form of discrimination or threatening behavior and language. Previously, similar protests occurred at Microsoft, where the company terminated four employees who were also protesting against the aid being given to Israel.
