Political tensions are high in anticipation of the Bihar Assembly elections. Discussions regarding seat-sharing among the parties within the existing alliances are ongoing. No decisions have been made on how many seats each party will contest. Currently, leaders of the NDA and the India Bloc are deliberating over seat-sharing arrangements. Amidst this, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav made a significant announcement at a public meeting held in Muzaffarpur on Saturday.
Tejashwi Yadav declared that the RJD would contest all 243 seats in Bihar. This statement has sparked questions about the future of the alliance. He appealed to the public, stating, “Tejashwi will contest from every constituency. I appeal to you all, vote by looking at Tejashwi’s face.”
In Muzaffarpur, Tejashwi Yadav also unveiled a statue of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. During the event, he asserted his commitment to advancing Bihar. He criticized the government, claiming they are merely imitating and lack vision. He further alleged that the government engages in corruption and that the poor are exploited from police stations to the headquarters. He said that every poor person is suffering under the misrule of Nitish Kumar.
Tejashwi Yadav’s appeal comes at a time when complex seat-sharing talks within the Grand Alliance, which includes the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha led by Hemant Soren and the Lok Janshakti Party led by Pashupati Paras, have become even more intricate.
In the 2020 assembly elections, the RJD contested 144 seats and won 75, emerging as the largest party in the alliance. The Congress secured 70 seats, winning 19. Congress in-charge for the state, Krishna Allavaru, stated this week that with the inclusion of new parties in the alliance, each party would need to concede some seats.
Following Tejashwi Yadav’s statement, the BJP has also responded. BJP spokesperson Neeraj Kumar stated, “Stop dreaming, Tejashwi Yadav. You alone do not have the strength to contest all 243 seats. You may try to pressure the Congress and your allies with such statements, but the people of Bihar have no faith in you. You remind them of the fodder scam and the land-for-jobs scam. People will vote for the NDA in the name of Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Modi.”
