New revelations have emerged regarding Sushila Karki’s appointment as the interim Prime Minister of Nepal. It has been revealed that a gaming app and social media surveys were used to select Karki for the position. Interestingly, Karki’s selection was based on a mere 7713 votes. The identities of those who cast these votes remain unknown.
Reports indicate that after KP Sharma Oli’s resignation, Generation Z leaders conducted a survey on Discord. This survey included Sushila Karki, along with the Mayor of Dharan, Harka Sampang, and Mahabir Pun.
In this poll on Discord, a total of 7713 votes were cast. Karki received 50 percent of the votes, with 3833 people choosing her as their first choice. ‘Random Nepali’ came in second place. ‘Random Nepali’ signifies someone who is a citizen of Nepal. Sagar Dhakal secured the third position, with over 1000 people voting for him.
Mayor of Dharan, Harka Sampang, was fourth, and Mahabir Pun was fifth. Based on this survey, representatives of Generation Z made a deal with President Ramchandra Poudel. It is said that Poudel appointed Karki to the interim Prime Minister position at the behest of Generation Z.
Two questions still linger regarding this survey. Discord is an American gaming company with 200 million users. Who initiated this survey on Discord, and in what capacity?
The second question is regarding the participants of this survey. Discord does not reveal the location of its users due to privacy concerns. Were the participants in Karki’s election exclusively Nepali citizens, and if so, who were they?
Karki is facing opposition in Nepal just three days after her appointment. The opposition is coming from those who played a key role in her appointment just three days ago. According to Nepali media, Sudan Gurung and his team have started opposing Karki.
On Sunday and Monday, Gurung’s team demonstrated outside the Prime Minister’s residence. Gurung’s team claims that Prime Minister Karki is making arbitrary decisions. The Gurung team has opposed Karki’s cabinet expansion.
