During Operation Sindoor, an airstrike by the Indian Air Force resulted in the fragmentation of the family of Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Masood Azhar. This revelation was made by Masood Ilyas Kashmiri, a close associate of Azhar, five months after the event. Ilyas stated that on the night of May 7th, Masood’s family was asleep in Bahawalpur when the strike occurred, shattering the family. He added that it is crucial to understand the reason behind this sacrifice.
Ilyas Kashmiri made these remarks during a rally in Pakistan. He is the head of Jaish’s preaching wing and is considered close to Masood Azhar. Along with Masood, Ilyas is involved in brainwashing young people. Ilyas is also a top figure on the NIA’s list.
14 members of the family were reportedly killed during the strike.
The attack targeted a madrasa in Bahawalpur on the night of May 7th. This madrasa belongs to Jaish leader Masood Azhar. Fourteen members of Masood’s family were sleeping inside the madrasa. All of them perished in the strike. Following the attack, Masood issued a letter.
In his letter, Masood wrote that he no longer wished to live. According to reports in the Pakistani media, Masood’s elder sister and brother-in-law were killed in Operation Sindoor.
Since Operation Sindoor, Masood Azhar has been in hiding.
Masood Azhar’s whereabouts remain unknown since Operation Sindoor. Recently, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that there were no terrorists on its soil. According to former Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, terrorists like Masood may be hiding in Afghanistan, although Afghanistan has not commented on this.
