Emcy Joseph’s Malayalam film, *Meesha*, presents itself like a set of Japanese nesting dolls, promising layers of depth. However, upon opening each layer, the film fails to deliver, leaving viewers with a sense of unfulfilled potential. The central plot revolves around two friends from different castes, Midhun and Anandhu, and their association with a corrupt politician. This narrative feels clichéd, leading Joseph to introduce Shine Tom Chacko, typecast as a hunter named Kitho, whose journey in the forest mirrors the fiery bond between Midhun and Anandhu. The film’s two plotlines remain disjointed, never successfully converging. Despite this, *Meesha* does present some intriguing elements. Kathir, as the reckless Midhun, injects some energy into the otherwise stale plot, and there are a few other interesting elements. The female characters, however, are underdeveloped. A prominent bison, and the hunters are caught in this weirdly unfinished film, and though the film attempts to convey something, it remains unclear.
