Two American soldiers were unexpectedly present during the large-scale Russian and Belarusian military exercise, Zapad-2025. Belarus described their presence as a surprise visit. This exercise, intended to display the combined strength of Russia and Belarus, is taking place near the borders of NATO countries amidst tensions between Poland and Russia. While the American soldiers’ presence wasn’t part of the combat maneuvers, they were there as international observers. According to a report by The Telegraph, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense shared a video on Monday showing two American soldiers shaking hands with the Belarusian Defense Minister. One of the soldiers was identified as Lieutenant Colonel Brian Shoup. Belarus stated that soldiers from a total of 23 countries participated, including NATO members Turkey and Hungary.
