YouTube recently unveiled a suite of new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features during its Made on YouTube event. A new free AI tool is now available, allowing Shorts creators to generate video backgrounds and clips with sound. The platform also introduced Playables on Live, enabling creators to engage with their audience through over 75 games.
YouTube has integrated a custom version of the Veo 3 video generation AI model with Google DeepMind for YouTube Shorts. This enables creators to produce video backgrounds and clips with sound. The tool is designed to generate 480p videos with “lower latency” at no cost.
The new YouTube Shorts feature is currently available to creators in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. To use the tool, creators can tap the create button and then click the “sparkle icon.” The company plans to expand availability to other regions soon.
Upcoming features for Shorts creators include the ability to convert still photos into videos using the Veo 3 AI model, apply various styles such as “pop art” or “origami,” and add objects and effects via text prompts. These features are expected to roll out in the coming months.
YouTube will also introduce the Google Veo 3 AI model to its Podcasts section. This will allow podcasters to create video clips and Shorts from full episodes. For audio-only podcasts, the AI tool can generate customizable videos using the audio files.
New features for live streaming include Playables, now accessible to all creators, providing a way to interact with audiences and monetize content. Additional updates include the ability to start vertical livestreams and an AI-powered tool to generate highlights or Shorts from live sessions.
Key highlights include powerful AI features for Shorts, upgrades to YouTube Studio such as Ask Studio, and AI tools for Podcast creators. Music fans will gain the ability to pre-save albums and view release countdowns. Music artists will get new ways to reward top fans, while brand deals and Shopping will be streamlined for collaborations.
