Once plagued by a grim reality of daily road accidents, Punjab has witnessed a dramatic shift, thanks to the implementation of the Road Safety Force (SSF) and the ‘Farishatey’ (Angels) Scheme. The Mann government’s initiative, launched in 2024, marked a significant step towards ensuring safer roads. The SSF, deployed every 30 kilometers across Punjab’s 4,100-kilometer road network, utilizes high-tech vehicles and advanced technology to respond to accident sites within minutes. Complementing this, the ‘Farishatey’ scheme incentivizes bystanders to assist accident victims by providing free medical treatment and awarding ‘angels’ who help. The combined effect has led to the saving of approximately 37,110 lives. Furthermore, a substantial reduction in road accidents has been observed, and the government’s commitment to inclusivity is demonstrated through the participation of women in the SSF. These initiatives represent a social revolution focused on public safety, fostering a culture of care, and instilling confidence among the populace.
