Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Sheikh, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and head of the Council of Senior Scholars, has passed away. His death was announced by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Tuesday. He was 82 years old. Funeral prayers will be held at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh after the Asr prayer. The Grand Mufti also held the position of head of the General Presidency for Scholarly Research and Ifta, and the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League. The Royal Court stated that with his passing, the Kingdom and the Islamic world have lost a distinguished scholar who made significant contributions to the service of Islam and Muslims. Sheikh Abdulaziz had been serving as the Grand Mufti for the past 26 years, taking up the position in 1999 after the death of Grand Mufti Abdulaziz bin Baz. The funeral prayer will be held at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh after the Asr prayer (3:12 PM Saudi time). King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have expressed their condolences to the family of Sheikh Abdulaziz, the people of Saudi Arabia, and the wider Islamic world.
