A Republican figure in Texas, Alexander Duncan, has drawn criticism following remarks concerning a 90-foot statue of Lord Hanuman in Sugar Land, Texas. Duncan voiced objections to the statue, referred to as the ‘Statue of Union,’ claiming it offended the United States as a Christian nation. On social media, Duncan wrote, “Why are we allowing a false statue of a false Hindu God to be here in Texas? We are a CHRISTIAN nation.” He included a video of the statue located at the Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple. Duncan also cited biblical verses to support his viewpoint. The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) has condemned Duncan’s statements as ‘anti-Hindu and incendiary’ and has filed a complaint with the Texas Republican Party. Duncan is a candidate for the Texas US Senate in the 2026 election. He is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine, and Northeastern University, and has a background in law enforcement. His campaign emphasizes traditional conservative values.
