The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended the USA Cricket Board with immediate effect. This decision, made during a virtual board meeting on September 23rd, comes as a significant blow to the team that remarkably defeated Pakistan in the 2024 T20I World Cup. Despite the suspension, the USA team will still be permitted to participate in the upcoming T20I World Cup. The ICC’s action could lead to substantial changes within USA cricket. The suspension stems from repeated violations of the ICC’s membership responsibilities. The board had previously been given a notice last year during the annual conference in Sri Lanka, followed by a three-month timeframe to address governance issues, which was granted at a meeting in Singapore. Despite the allocated time, the issues remained unresolved, leading to the ICC’s decision. However, this suspension will not impact the cricket tournament at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics; the USA team is still expected to be among the six teams participating as a host nation.
