The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership, a decision announced on Tuesday, ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles where cricket is slated to be a featured sport. The suspension follows a year-long review process and stakeholder consultations. The ICC cited repeated breaches of its constitution by USA Cricket as the primary reason, specifically pointing to a lack of proper governance and minimal progress in gaining recognition from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). Furthermore, the ICC expressed concern that USA Cricket’s actions have damaged the sport’s reputation both domestically and internationally. Despite the suspension, USA’s men’s and women’s teams will continue to compete in ICC events and prepare for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The ICC has stated its commitment to supporting cricket’s growth in the United States, protecting the sporting ecosystem, and bolstering its presence on the global stage. To ensure stability, the ICC or its representatives will temporarily manage USA’s national teams, with a Normalisation Committee overseeing reforms to USA Cricket’s governance, administration, and operational structure.
