A performer from Himachal Pradesh tragically passed away from a cardiac arrest while enacting the role of ‘Raja Dashrath’ during a Ramleela production in Chamba. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at the Chaugan Ground, with a video capturing the actor, identified as Amresh Mahajan, collapsing on stage during his performance. Fellow actors, initially unaware of the severity of the situation, quickly realized Mahajan was experiencing a medical emergency. The curtains were immediately closed, and organizers rushed to provide assistance. He was promptly transported to Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. Swapan Mahajan, President of the Shri Ramleela Club, Chamba, confirmed the actor’s death and expressed deep sorrow. Amresh Mahajan had been a part of the Ramleela for over two decades, often portraying roles such as Raja Dashrath or Ravana. Club members also remembered his dedication and contributions to the Ramleela. The event unfolded at 8:30 PM on Tuesday. Mahajan, seated on the throne as King Dashrath, began losing consciousness while delivering his lines. His sudden lean to his left caused initial confusion among other performers, but the severity of the situation was soon apparent. The performance was immediately halted as the audience watched in shock. A similar incident was also reported where a property dealer playing Lord Ram died during a Ramleela performance in Delhi’s Shahdara.
