Ladakhi activist Sonam Wangchuk is under scrutiny due to allegations of financial misconduct. Reports suggest that his foreign funding activities are being investigated, with the government citing significant discrepancies within his NGO and private institutions. Wangchuk is accused of violating laws and misusing foreign funds for personal benefit, purportedly under the guise of a mass movement. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is anticipated to launch an investigation into his NGO, SECMOL, under the FEMA Act, due to alleged failures to provide accurate details of foreign donations and non-compliance with FCRA Act provisions. The institution is also alleged to have failed to return funds received from abroad. Further compounding the situation, the Home Ministry has revoked Wangchuk’s FCRA registration.
