NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte stated that the US President’s imposition of 50% tariffs on India due to Russian oil purchases is significantly impacting Moscow. Rutte also claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has requested an explanation from Russia regarding its Ukraine strategy. According to Rutte, India is facing tariffs as a consequence of these actions. The US president initially imposed a 25% tariff, followed by another 25% penalty on India for buying Russian oil, citing India’s support for Russia’s actions in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Trump mentioned ongoing trade negotiations with India, expressing optimism for a successful conclusion. Prime Minister Modi responded, highlighting his confidence in the trade negotiations to unlock the potential of the India-US partnership, and further noting the close friendship and natural partnership between the two nations. Modi indicated that teams are working to conclude these discussions promptly and he looked forward to speaking with President Trump to secure a prosperous future.
