The Indian government has refuted claims made by NATO Chief Mark Rutte regarding a phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Rutte had alleged that Modi contacted Putin to discuss ending the war in Ukraine, purportedly due to pressure from US tariffs. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, dismissed Rutte’s statement as false and baseless. Jaiswal stated that no such conversation took place between the two leaders. The MEA emphasized that such statements from NATO should be avoided and that India’s decisions on energy imports are made with national interests and economic security in mind.
