KP Sharma Oli, Nepal’s former Prime Minister, has voiced strong criticism of the current government, labeling it the ‘Gen-Z government’ and alleging its formation was unconstitutional. Oli stated that the current administration was not established through proper constitutional procedures or a popular vote, but rather through acts of vandalism and arson. He made these remarks on Saturday, marking his first public appearance since stepping down from leadership following the Gen Z protests on September 8. Oli further explained that his resignation on September 9 was a result of the events that unfolded the previous day, with his decision aimed at preventing further escalation. He attended a public event organized by the Rastriya Yuwa Sangh, the student wing of the CPN-UML, in Bhaktapur, which is seen as a strategic move to reconnect with the party’s younger demographic. This event came nearly three weeks after widespread demonstrations, primarily led by young protestors, calling for political accountability, an end to corruption, and the removal of a controversial social media ban. These protests led to Nepal’s most violent day since the 2006 pro-democracy movement.
