Controversy continues to swirl around the death of singer Jubin Garg. The official report cited drowning as the cause of death, which occurred in Singapore on September 19, 2025. However, his family suspects foul play. Jubin’s family has filed an online complaint with the Assam Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The complaint was lodged by Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, his sister-in-law Pami Barthakur, and his uncle Manoj Borthakur.
He had traveled to Singapore for the North East India Festival, where he was scheduled to perform on September 20. His wife, Garima Saikia, stated that the incident wasn’t a scuba diving accident, but occurred while swimming with friends. Autopsies in Singapore and a second post-mortem in Assam also attributed the death to drowning, with no foul play detected.
The singer’s family has accused his manager, Siddhartha Sharma, and Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organizer of the North East Festival in Singapore, of negligence. A named complaint has been filed against them. According to sources, the complaint also mentions all the individuals involved in the Singapore trip, including Assamese people residing in Singapore who invited Garg to a yacht party.
The family has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. Authorities have reportedly registered the complaint and the CID will soon begin its investigation.
According to NDTV sources, the Special Team (SIT) investigating Jubin’s death has issued summons to the festival organizer and Garg’s manager to join the investigation by October 6. Summons have also been issued to a dozen other people from Assam who were present on the mini ship with Garg to join the investigation.
The Chief Minister of Assam stated, “We have given them time until October 6. Summons have been sent through the Indian Embassy in Singapore. Lookout notices through Interpol have already been issued against Siddhartha Sarma and Shyamkanu Mahanta to prevent them from fleeing to any other country.”
52-year-old singer Jubin Garg went swimming in the sea in Singapore last week, where he drowned. He had gone to Singapore to participate in the three-day North East India Festival, which was scheduled to begin on September 20. However, this claim was rejected after the singer’s death, and the cause of death is under investigation.
