A powerful grenade blast occurred at the headquarters complex of the 16 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in the Surankote area of Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday evening. The explosion, which took place around 7:45 PM, resulted in the martyrdom of an army soldier. The soldier has been identified as Sepoy Bhavesh Chaudhary of 18 MAC (Medical Assistant Core). His sacrifice has led to an outpouring of grief, not only within the army but also across the nation.
The impact of the blast was reportedly so intense that it caused widespread panic among residents in the surrounding areas. Following the incident, security measures were heightened in the Surankote market and neighboring regions. Joint teams of the army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police immediately arrived at the scene, cordoning off the entire area and initiating a search operation. The exact cause of the explosion remains unknown, and both the army and the police are working to ascertain the details.
Investigations into the precise causes of the blast are ongoing. Although initial investigations have not yet determined whether the explosion was the result of a terrorist attack or an accidental detonation, the army’s investigation unit and bomb disposal squad have reached the site. Evidence is being collected from the scene to determine the exact cause of the blast. Security forces have declared a high alert in the area and increased vigilance to counter potential terrorist activities.
In a separate incident, another grenade explosion occurred on Monday in the Draba area of Poonch district, injuring two army soldiers. Investigations are underway to determine whether this incident occurred during a training session or due to another reason. The two injured soldiers were immediately admitted to a nearby military hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
