Following India’s victory in the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan, a significant controversy has emerged. ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and head of PCB, took the trophy from the field after India declined to receive it from him. This action has delayed India’s access to the trophy, which, according to ACC protocol, should have been sent to the BCCI office in Mumbai. Naqvi is reportedly willing to award medals to Indian cricketers but only if a ceremony is organized where he can be the center of attention. The Indian team, in coordination with the BCCI, has decided against participating in any ceremony involving Naqvi due to his previous anti-India statements. The post-final presentation was delayed significantly, and while individual awards were presented, there was no collective celebration for the champions. Pakistan players received their medals, but India’s snub of Naqvi has created an unusual diplomatic situation, leaving the Asia Cup trophy out of India’s possession.
