A cyber cell has apprehended a fraudster from Jharkhand who allegedly swindled a student from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, out of 13 lakh rupees through the Free Fire Max game. The student, distressed by the scammer’s blackmail, died by suicide. The police have recovered nearly five lakh rupees from the scammer’s accounts and three lakh rupees worth of assets purchased with the stolen money. In addition, the police also apprehended another student connected to the gang, but released him after questioning and issuing a notice.
The accused, identified as Sanat Gorai, was arrested from the Raj State Muslim Basti in the Ghatshila police station area of the Purvi Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. He is a 12th-grade graduate. Gorai targeted people through online gaming, luring them into scams. A 14-year-old class six student from Dhanuwasand village, a victim of his fraud, died by suicide on September 15. Investigations confirmed the presence of the Free Fire Max game on the student’s mobile phone.
