Following violent clashes in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, authorities have implemented heightened security measures in anticipation of Friday prayers. To prevent the misuse of social media platforms, the district administration has suspended internet services for 48 hours. This decision, coupled with increased security presence in Bareilly and neighboring areas, aims to mitigate communal tensions. According to a directive from the Uttar Pradesh Home Department, mobile internet, broadband, and SMS services will be unavailable in Bareilly district from 3 PM on October 2nd to 3 PM on October 4th. Home Secretary Gaurav Dayal stated that the order was issued to curb the spread of misinformation and prevent unrest arising from the misuse of social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and WhatsApp. The move is intended to maintain peace and public order. Additionally, city officials conducted a flag march throughout the city on Thursday. The measures follow the violent incidents of September 26th, when approximately 2,000 people gathered outside a mosque in the Kotwali area following Friday prayers, triggered by a controversy over ‘I Love Muhammad’ posters.
