In Araria district, a newlywed woman named Sapna Kumari was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Ward No. 13 of Bangama Panchayat. The deceased’s body was discovered hanging from a fan in her in-laws’ house and was promptly taken to Bhabua Sadar Hospital. Sapna, the daughter of Mantu Mahto from Radhanagar in the Kasba police station area of Purnia district, had been married to Sonu Kumar just five months prior. Her family has alleged that Sapna was strangled to death. They also accuse the in-laws of pressuring Sapna for a dowry that included a substantial sum of money and a motorcycle. Initially, the in-laws remained silent, but the family believes that a dispute arising from the unmet dowry demands led to the murder. Police have taken Sapna’s husband, mother-in-law, and other family members into custody for questioning. Sadar SDPO Sushil Kumar confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) for murder has been registered due to the gravity of the situation, and a post-mortem examination has been conducted. Police are continuing their investigation and have promised strict action against those found guilty.
