The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Rajya Sabha member Aditya Sahu as the working president of its Jharkhand unit. Sahu expressed gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, stating that the party and national interest are paramount to him. He pledged to serve the BJP with honesty, commitment, and dedication.
The appointment, made by BJP National President JP Nadda, replaces Ravindra Kumar Rai, who held the position since October of the previous year, before the state assembly elections. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha had defeated the BJP-led NDA in the assembly elections, maintaining their hold on power. Sahu was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2022 and was elected unopposed.
The decision to replace Ravindra Kumar Rai within a year underscores the party’s efforts to reorganize the state unit and strengthen its organizational structure in the eastern state. Sahu thanked PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, JP Nadda, and other leaders for their trust. Speaking in Ranchi, Sahu said, “I have been a BJP worker since 1980 and will continue to serve the party with honesty, commitment, and dedication. The party and national interest will be paramount to me.”
Upon arriving at the party’s state office in Ranchi, Sahu was welcomed by several party leaders. He expressed his gratitude to the top leadership and stated that he would fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to him by the party’s national president. Recalling his early struggles, Sahu mentioned his involvement in distributing election slips in 1980, highlighting the dedication even in harsh weather conditions. He was later promoted to district vice-president and has served in various organizational roles, including two terms as the organization’s general secretary for Jharkhand. Now, he will fulfill his duties as the working state president. The appointment of Aditya Sahu, who belongs to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, is seen as a strategic move by the BJP’s top leadership to consolidate the OBC vote bank in Jharkhand. Sahu hails from Kunchu village in Ranchi and has been associated with the BJP for over four decades. He is considered to have a strong connection with the public and is currently a BJP Rajya Sabha MP. He has also worked as a teacher for a long time.
