Director Karan Johar has voiced his opinion on the recent alteration of the film ‘Raanjhanaa’, specifically the addition of an AI-generated ending. Johar’s comments come amid discussions surrounding the re-release of the film with a modified conclusion. The original film featured the character Kundan, portrayed by Dhanush, meeting a tragic end. However, the re-released version incorporated an AI-generated ending where Kundan survives.
Johar’s remarks echo the concerns raised by director Anand L. Rai, who is currently occupied with his upcoming film ‘Tere Ishq Mein…’. The new film stars Dhanush and Kriti Sanon in lead roles. A teaser released recently has heightened anticipation among fans. The pairing of Kriti and Dhanush is particularly appealing.
Johar emphasized the importance of ethical considerations in such matters. He asserted that contractual agreements should govern the process. If a producer holds complete rights to a film, they are entitled to make changes. However, Johar believes that a moral dilemma should be considered in these situations.
He further elaborated that he owns all of his IPs today, but if he were to change anything in a film, he would consult the director. If a contractual agreement is not in place, then it should be ethical. Modifying a director’s vision and releasing it without their consent is not appropriate.
