A businessman in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, initially reported a theft at his residence on Saturday. He claimed that unknown thieves had entered his apartment, incapacitated him, bound his hands and feet, and made off with 86 kilograms of silver jewelry valued at 1.29 crore rupees. The businessman also stated that the thieves had taken the DVR of the CCTV cameras after the incident. However, the entire narrative has been revealed to be fabricated.
The incident occurred in the Sadar Bazaar area of the City Kotwali police station. During police questioning, the businessman, Rahul Goyal, admitted that his account was false. He confessed to losing a substantial amount of money in online gambling. Goyal was a broker in the silver trade and a resident of Agra, Uttar Pradesh. He would take orders for silver from Agra, arrange for its supply, and earn a commission. Companies trusted him, allowing him to receive jewelry on credit.
Faced with his gambling losses, Goyal devised a false story to avoid paying for the company’s goods and recoup his financial losses. He filed a false FIR, claiming to be a resident of Aligarh and owning a company called Shiva Traders in Raipur. He stated that he worked as a CFA for the company, bringing silver jewelry to Raipur to sell to other businesses.
In the FIR, Goyal mentioned receiving a commission of 50 rupees for each piece of silver jewelry he sold. He had brought 200 kilograms of silver to Raipur for Diwali. He had returned 100 kilograms to Agra and sold 14 kilograms. He claimed that 86 kilograms remained. According to his statement, he had gone to sleep after eating dinner on Friday night. Around 3 am, someone knocked on his door. When he opened it, he found two masked individuals. One entered and pointed a gun at him, while the other attacked him with a knife and covered his mouth with a handkerchief. He then lost consciousness.
He regained consciousness at 10 am the next day and found his hands and feet bound with a rope. He somehow freed himself and came out. He claimed that 86 kilograms of silver jewelry had been stolen from his house, and the thieves had taken the DVR.
