A meeting was held on Sunday to discuss seat distribution among the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) parties for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The meeting took place at the residence of Tejashwi Yadav, the chairman of the coordination committee. Leaders from the constituent parties stated that the seat-sharing arrangement has been finalized. A press conference will be held within two days to announce the details.
Following the meeting, Mukesh Sahani, the president of the Vikassheel Insaan Party, informed reporters that everything had been decided. He requested to be excused from providing further specifics and announced a press conference to reveal all details in two days.
The completion of the SIR work for the voter list in Bihar and the meeting between the Chief Election Commissioner, election officials, and representatives of political parties suggest that the Election Commission is likely to announce the election soon. Consequently, all political parties have intensified their discussions regarding seat distribution.
Tejashwi Yadav’s residence hosted the meeting of Mahagathbandhan leaders on Sunday. Sources indicate that a final decision on seat allocation was reached during the meeting, although the exact number of seats for each party remains undisclosed.
Earlier, while arriving at Tejashwi Yadav’s residence, Rajesh Kumar, the state Congress president, and Krishna Allavaru, the All India Congress Committee in-charge for the state, mentioned that ‘seat sharing’ and ‘potential candidates’ were the main topics of discussion.
In the 2020 Assembly elections, the RJD contested 144 seats and won 75. The Congress had the worst strike rate, winning only 19 out of 70 seats contested. The Left parties performed well five years ago, with CPI-ML winning 12 out of 19, CPM winning 2 out of 4, and CPI winning 2 out of 6 seats. This time, at least three more parties are joining the opposition alliance: Mukesh Sahani’s Vikassheel Insaan Party, JMM, and Pashupati Paras’s faction of LJP.
