Assam Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Numal Momin has put forth a significant proposal to establish a Zubeen Garg Memorial Trust. This initiative aims to immortalize the late singer’s legacy by channeling donations towards the welfare of underprivileged sections of society. The trust would focus on supporting poor individuals, widows, orphans, marginalized communities, and students through scholarships and aid. Momin emphasized that such a trust would provide tangible benefits to those in need, ensuring Zubeen Garg’s memory endures through acts of kindness and social responsibility. He envisioned a trust open to all, with an inclusive membership drive encouraging all 3.4 crore people of Assam to participate. The Deputy Speaker expressed deep sorrow over Garg’s untimely demise, calling it a profound loss for Assam and the entire Indian music fraternity. He also addressed the ongoing investigation into Garg’s death, expressing confidence in the judicial system and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, which includes a retired judge and a sitting judge. Momin highlighted the progress of the investigation, noting several arrests and assuring the public of a thorough probe, even suggesting a CBI referral if necessary to uncover the truth and deliver justice for the beloved singer. The article notes that five individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the case, including event organizers and Garg’s manager.
